Times are tough. Money and good income is getting hard to come by these days. Still, it's the New Year and you feel that you have to buy new furniture for your house. After all, when the new year strikes, there's got to be some drastic changes in the house, right?

Not necessarily so. While you can take that advice well and do some changes inside your home, does this have to be as expensive as purchasing new furniture? If you followed this advice and purchase new furniture every time, then you will be changing furniture every year and needlessly spending thousands of dollars every time!

So how do you know if it is time to buy new furniture? Well, first of all, if you can afford to purchase new furniture every year, then do so. It is within our right to spend our money on wherever we see fit. But remember that times are tough. Better save the money instead. If you can't, well, that is why we are here.

The criteria are actually pretty easy. Look at your furniture first. Do they look old enough? Are they tattered? Have you been spending considerable money on furniture repair? Or is it something that can be polished to turn to something that is new once again? Furniture are not like clothes that can easily wear out. Their lives can be pretty long. If you can polish them, then do so.

The next factor is more cosmetic, but are your furniture still in-style? Or still decent-looking at the very least? This is why you should aim for furniture that are timeless. In any case, buying new furniture because your old ones are out of style might also mean that you should take major renovations in your home because furniture purchases are usually patterned on your home motif.
