Believe it or not, but good interior design sense dictates that one should give high importance to lighting as much as importance is given to the choice of color to be used for the walls. Lighting, like the style and color of your walls, have the capability of either reinforcing or contradicting the kind of atmosphere that you want to promote inside your home.

There are generally three categories of lighting, namely: general lighting, functional lighting, and decorative lighting. The first one lights up the whole room. This is the most important function of your light bulbs. Conventional knowledge tells us that we should put up one central lighting at the center of the room. However, if you want to have more control over the atmosphere of your room, then you better choose smaller directional lights instead.

Meanwhile, we have functional lighting that we use in order to accomplish a specific task. This would include the lights in your kitchen that you use in order to illuminate your place while cooking or the lights in your study room. When it comes to purchasing functional lighting, function obviously comes first before everything else.

Finally, we have decorative lighting, which makes less use if you just want to illuminate your room. They're basically there for adding accents to your room and embellishing your room with the lighting environment that is fit with your tastes. For this purpose, scones and other custom-built lighting structures are well-used They could easily translate your otherwise boring home into something that brings out vibrance and excitement in one package.

In order to have an effective lighting system for your home, it is always best to consult an interior designer who is in the best position to translate your own personality to a home design that is perfect for you. You could always help in the process but I would advise against designing your lighting system on your own.
