Right now, my family and I are busy looking for a new home. Over the last two decades we've moved to so many houses already that we can consider ourselves as pro level in this kind of game. One thing is for sure. Moving furniture from one home to another surely takes a lot of time, effort, and money. It takes more than a single person to do it while a lot of preparation before the big day is involved.

The number one impediment for very large items is their size and shape. Ideally, you should be able to measure all of your furniture to see whether they will fit in the walkways of your new home. In practice, this takes a lot of time that it probably makes more sense to simply dismantle your very large furniture outright and rebuild them in your new home. If you have the time, then do take the time to measure because this can be a great aid to you when planning the new format of your new home.

Cushions and removable covers of couches and other related furniture also have to be removed prior to the move. If they cannot be removed, then at least cover them with plastic cover or a thick blanket that will protect them from the dirt encountered during the long travel, not to mention hand prints taken during the rush of the move. The same can be said about mattresses for your bed.

Dressers and drawers don't need to have all of their contents removed, but for safekeeping, fragile objects have to be covered with cushion or bubble wrap in order to avoid breaking them down. Make sure that the drawers and cabinets are handled with caution. If you are going to hire professional movers, tell them which items to handle with care.

Moving out certainly takes a lot of hard work. It is something that should not be done every single year, I hope!
