One of the no-no's in preserving wooden furniture is storing it in damp or humid locations. Afterwards, you can employ a number of different methods to completely rub off the smell of mildew. Some of them are actually pretty unusual, but conventional. For one, ground dry coffee is often used by a lot of maintenance staff to remove nasty smell from certain areas. Mildew is certainly on their list as well. For others, charcoal and baking soda are also excellent odor removers to try out. But these are relatively expensive if you will compare them with natural clay kitty litter. They're effective on kitty poop, so they should be effective on the smell of mildew as well. You can put the kitty litter inside a bowl and put it near the furniture where there is a mildew smell.
